Inertial Navigation for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

Modern UAVs and drones require reliable navigation in environments where GPS signals are degraded, jammed, or completely unavailable. GyroNavi's inertial sensors provide the core attitude and heading reference that enables autonomous flight in any condition.

How Inertial Sensors Enable GPS-Denied Navigation

When a drone loses GPS signal—whether in urban canyons, dense forests, tunnels, or contested electronic warfare environments—its inertial measurement unit (IMU) takes over. By continuously measuring acceleration and angular velocity, the IMU computes position, velocity, and attitude through dead reckoning, seamlessly bridging GPS gaps until the signal is restored.

Product Solutions by UAV Grade

Different UAV platforms demand different sensor performance levels. GyroNavi offers solutions across the full spectrum:

High-End Military & Strategic UAVs

For long-endurance military drones and tactical UAVs that require navigation-grade accuracy, our Fiber Optic Gyroscopes (FOG) deliver unmatched bias stability down to 0.003°/h. These sensors maintain precision over extended missions without GPS aiding.

  • Bias stability: 0.003°/h to 0.05°/h
  • Tri-axis FOG IMU configurations available
  • MIL-STD-810 environmental compliance
  • Anti-jamming capabilities for contested environments

Commercial & Industrial Drones

For surveying, inspection, delivery, and agricultural drones, our MEMS IMU modules offer an optimal balance of performance, size, weight, and cost. These compact sensors provide reliable 6-DOF measurement with low noise and high bandwidth.

  • Compact form factor for weight-constrained platforms
  • Low power consumption for extended flight time
  • Industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C)
  • Integrated calibration reduces integration complexity

Key Benefits for UAV Applications

  • GPS-Denied Operations: Maintain accurate navigation during GPS outages with high-quality dead reckoning
  • Flight Stability: High-bandwidth angular rate sensing enables responsive stabilization even in turbulent conditions
  • Autonomous Takeoff & Landing: Precise attitude knowledge supports automated flight phases without external references
  • Payload Stabilization: Provide accurate pointing information for gimbaled cameras, LiDAR, and communication antennas
  • Swarm Operations: Reliable relative navigation enables coordinated multi-drone missions
